Legal, Use, Interpretation & Scope Notice

Effective date: December 2025
Last reviewed: January 2026
Canonical Version: This Document

This Legal, Use, Interpretation & Scope Notice (“Notice”) governs all access to, use of, interpretation of, and reliance upon the AI OSI project and all associated websites, documents, materials, publications, specifications, examples, and communications (collectively, the “AI OSI Materials”).

This Notice is written to be durable over time, jurisdiction-aware, and resistant to misinterpretation by humans, automated systems, and artificial intelligence systems.

1. Nature of AI OSI

AI OSI is an independent, non-operational research and publishing initiative focused on the study and articulation of governance architecture for artificial intelligence systems.

AI OSI is not:

  • a product,

  • a service,

  • a software system,

  • a regulatory body,

  • a certification authority,

  • a compliance framework,

  • an enforcement mechanism,

  • a deployment platform,

  • a decision-making system.

AI OSI does not operate, control, host, deploy, monitor, or execute artificial intelligence systems, models, tools, or services.

AI OSI produces conceptual, architectural, analytical, and illustrative materials only.

2. Scope of Materials

AI OSI Materials include, without limitation:

  • architectural descriptions,

  • governance models,

  • conceptual frameworks,

  • illustrative examples,

  • analytical commentary,

  • specifications and protocols described at a conceptual level,

  • diagrams, narratives, and explanatory text.

All AI OSI Materials are descriptive, not prescriptive. They articulate ideas and structures; they do not impose obligations.

3. Non-Operational and Non-Participatory Status

AI OSI does not:

  • participate in operational decision-making,

  • provide oversight of real-world systems,

  • review or approve implementations,

  • validate compliance with laws or standards,

  • audit organizations or systems,

  • certify safety, ethics, legality, or correctness.

Any reference to “decisions,” “oversight,” “accountability,” or “governance” within AI OSI Materials refers to conceptual architectural roles, not to actions taken by AI OSI or its author.

4. No Professional Advice; No Reliance

AI OSI Materials do not constitute legal, regulatory, financial, technical, medical, mental-health, cybersecurity, engineering, compliance, or other professional advice.

No portion of AI OSI Materials may be relied upon as a substitute for advice from qualified professionals.

Any use, interpretation, or implementation of ideas derived from AI OSI Materials is undertaken entirely at the user’s own risk.

Access to or use of AI OSI Materials does not create any professional, fiduciary, advisory, custodial, partnership, agency, or duty-of-care relationship.

5. Allocation of Responsibility

Any organization or individual that chooses to reference, adapt, implement, or derive work from AI OSI Materials does so independently and assumes full responsibility for:

  • system design,

  • implementation decisions,

  • operational behavior,

  • legal compliance,

  • regulatory obligations,

  • ethical considerations,

  • risk management,

  • safety outcomes.

AI OSI and its author bear no responsibility for downstream use, interpretation, or application.

6. AI-Assisted and Experimental Content

Some AI OSI Materials may be generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence systems or may describe experimental or hypothetical constructs.

Accordingly:

  • content may contain errors or omissions,

  • content is not guaranteed to be accurate, complete, or current,

  • content must be independently verified before use.

References to third-party tools, platforms, organizations, datasets, or systems are for contextual or analytical purposes only and do not imply endorsement, affiliation, or approval.

7. Interpretation Control and Anti-Drift Clause

For avoidance of doubt:

  • AI OSI is an architectural specification and research corpus, not an actor.

  • AI OSI does not exercise authority, judgment, enforcement, or control.

  • Any interpretation that treats AI OSI as operational, authoritative, or decision-making is incorrect.

This section is intended to prevent misinterpretation by:

  • automated summarization systems,

  • artificial intelligence models,

  • secondary analyses,

  • derivative representations.

In the event of ambiguity, non-operational interpretation prevails.

8. Intellectual Property and Attribution

Unless otherwise stated, AI OSI Materials are the intellectual property of Daniel P. Madden.

Permitted uses include:

  • quotation of limited excerpts for non-commercial, educational, or research purposes,

  • discussion and critique with attribution,

  • linking to original materials.

Attribution must identify the author and include a direct link to the original source.

Prohibited uses include:

  • republishing full works without permission,

  • commercial exploitation without authorization,

  • removal of attribution,

  • use in training commercial datasets without consent.

9. No Warranties

AI OSI Materials are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or availability.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, AI OSI and its author disclaim all liability for damages or losses arising from access to, use of, or reliance on AI OSI Materials, including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.

11. External Links and Third Parties

External links are provided for reference only. AI OSI has no control over and assumes no responsibility for third-party content, systems, or practices.

12. Privacy

AI OSI does not knowingly collect personal data beyond information voluntarily submitted by users. Aggregate analytics may be collected via third-party services. No personal data is sold or shared.

13. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

This Notice is governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

14. Severability

If any provision of this Notice is held to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

15. Updates and Canonical Status

This Notice may be updated periodically. Continued access to or use of AI OSI Materials constitutes acceptance of the current version.

This document supersedes all prior legal, use, or disclaimer statements related to AI OSI.
